The Arts
Music and SIM (School of Instrumental Music)
Wembley Downs Primary School provides an engaging music education for all students in Year 1 to 6. The students learn to sing, perform, read, write, create and aurally identify music through discovery based learning. The school also offers instrumental scholarships provided by the School of Instrumental Music on violin, viola, cello, double bass, trumpet and trombone. The program also has a string orchestra, jazz band and school choir.
Noongar Language – National Anthem
Our students sing the 2nd verse of the Australian National Anthem in Noongar at all major school events and assemblies. Music specialist teacher Miss Sophie Mollett taught students and staff how to pronounce the words and sing the 2nd verse in Noongar in 2022. Students sing the 2nd verse in Noongar with pride, allowing our students to respect and acknowledge Noongar Boodja.
Dance
Edu-Dance is a fun program of hip hop dance, designed to improve fitness and health. The program fulfils the Physical and Health outcome requirements including other aspects such as coordination, musical appreciation and self-confidence with the opportunity to perform for an audience in our own school community.
Year 6 Drama
Our Year 6 students take part in our Year 6 Drama program for Terms 1 - 3 of the school year, taught by our Music Teacher, supported by our Year 6 staff, and Years 2 - 6 Deputy Principal, with the goal of a final production, performed at Churchlands Senior High School. This is a wonderful community event supported by our Year 6 Families who assist with costumes and props. Our Choir also sings at this event. We are always very proud of the Year 6 Dramas, as it is a great example of how our school community works together.
