Positive Behavior Support
Our Positive School Behaviour Expectations
At Wembley Downs Primary School, we believe that positive behaviour is key to creating a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment. Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach helps students understand and meet clear expectations while being supported to make positive choices.
Our School-Wide Expectations
We encourage all students to follow these four key expectations:
-
Be Respectful
-
Be Responsible
-
Be Your Best
-
Be Caring and Safe
We have also outlined specific behaviours for students to follow in different aspects of school in our matrix below and focus on one of these areas each week. These behaviours are explicitly taught, modelled, and reinforced throughout the school to create a positive and supportive learning community.
Encouraging Positive Behaviour
To recognise and reward students who demonstrate expected behaviours, we use:
-
PBIS Points System – Students earn points for positive behaviour, which contribute to individual and faction rewards.
-
Kookaburra Awards – Each specialist teacher recognises a class that demonstrates our four values.
-
Merit and Citizenship Awards– Certificates are presented at assemblies to acknowledge outstanding effort and contribution.
-
Faction Rewards – Students work together to earn faction points, leading to fun rewards like extra play time, icey poles, and free dress days.
Supporting Student Wellbeing
Our PBS framework ensures students receive support when needed, including:
-
Restorative conversations to help students reflect on their actions and repair relationships.
-
Clear behaviour guidelines with a structured referral process for repeated or serious behaviours.
-
Individual Behaviour Plans for students requiring additional support.
Partnering with Parents
We value open communication with parents and encourage collaboration in supporting positive student behaviour. If you have any concerns, we welcome discussions with teachers to ensure the best outcomes for your child.
